Neighbourhood Development Plan

The Localism Bill introduced by this government has devolved extensive powers down to Town and Parish Councils to enable them to have a real say in the future of their communities.

Coleford is facing some dramatic changes to the parish with speculation about the future of the Five Acres site, the proposed changes to the police station and other major developments in the town. To ensure that the community has a real and effective input into what happens to these sites the Town Council has decided to take advantage of this new power and develop a Neighbourhood Development Plan. (NDP)

This initiative is similar to a parish plan in determining a vision and future for the parish but this document has legislative weight meaning that when adopted it must be recognised by the local planning authority  ie the Forest of Dean District Council. This means that as a community we can determine our own future.

With such power comes responsibility and this can only be achieved by thorough consultation with the parish. Consequently the Working Party to move the NDP forward must be representative of the community.

The Town Council would like to invite you or a representative of your organisation to become a member of the Strategic Working Party. If you would like to take part please complete the contact form at the bottom of the page.

If you would like to know more about this project you can contact me at Coleford Town Council or look on the local Government website here.

These are truly exciting times for Coleford and for the first time the Town Council with the community can ensure that their voice is heard so that others outside the parish cannot just impose what they believe to be the right solution – the people of Coleford will decide.
