As a requirement of Health & Safety legislation Coleford Town Council are required to test the headstones in Coleford Cemetery.
We are looking to start testing in September 2011. The testing will be carried out to regulation standards by trained staff. Any headstone found to be unsafe will be labelled with a request that it be made safe. Any headstone in immediate danger of toppling will be carefully laid flat or propped to remove the risk of accident or injury.
If you care for a grave where the headstone has been labelled as unsafe you are requested to seek the advice of a monumental mason who will provide a quotation for any necessary work..
The Council are aware that this may cause distress to bereaved families and are trying to handle this matter with sensitivity.
If you have any concerns or would like to dicuss this matter with a member of staff or a Councillor please contact our office, see below for contact details.
