Polling Stations – are they in the right place?

Coleford Town Council is to look into the siting of polling stations within the parish. Parishioners have raised their concerns that some polling stations are too far away from their homes.

At the Council meeting on April 27 Councillors agreed that nothing could be done for this election but were pleased that this issue had been raised. They all agreed that action needed to be taken before the local elections next year.  Mayor of Coleford,  Sue Merrikin said ” It is important that the siting of polling stations does not deter people from exercising their democratic right. As a Council we understand the huge task the Forest of Dean District Council face in organising a district wide election. So we are going to look at our parish and try and come up with some positive suggestions about where polling stations could be sited”

Grit Bins – are there enough and are they in the right place?

Coleford Town Council has carried out an audit of all the grit bins in the parish. The Council wants to make sure before next winter that grit bins are well situated and properly maintained. The Public Safety Committee have given their recommendations about the siting and repositioning of some grit bins to the County Council and are awaiting their response. Lets hope they agree and the grit bins will be more strategically places this winter.
